OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT FOR THE CREW AT THE CLUB CREW WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PENANG
Over 150 crews in 86 Clubs from 17 Countries competed in
the CCWC and 61 crews from 13 Countries competed in the ADBC,
making a total of 3900 competitors at Penang 2008.
This ranks Penang 2008 as the biggest Championship Regatta
held so far in Dragon Boat Sport and shows how far and fast our
sport has developed since the first World Championships was held
in Yue Yang in 1995. Then just over 800 competitors from 14
Countries took part - a figure which will be exceeded at the
European Championships in Sabaudia, Italy this coming September,
when 15 Countries and over 1000 competitors are expected to
compete.
40
members and partners from the CDBC travelled to Penang on the 28th
July to compete in this important world event.
The
Cockburn Blades qualified at the Nationals in Penrith, Sydney in
2007 and again by winning gold at Champion Lakes in Perth in 2008.
The
intensive training paid off when they came 4th in the Seniors Open
500m race and 5th in the 200m.
MANY THANKS TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS
